I am a huge fan of all of Ms. Chamberlain's books. Though this book is short but it covers a lot of information. The author does a fabulous job of being direct, clear, and on point with her information and writing. The Craft is something that you can never learn in one book. Even though her books are centered around Wicca, the information is useful and insightful to all areas of The Craft and Witches. The book description is exactly what the book is. I myself have a library of several different topics. I started with this author and purchase every book as they come out. I suggest taking notes on things that peak your interest so that you can do further research. Cute story! I bought this as a "card" to go along with a monster bowling set I bought for my 2 year old nephew. Very pleased and the book is definitely brand new!

My kids and I love the Boynton books and we have many of them, but I decided to add this one to our collection when struggling to come up with a birthday gift for a one year old. This one was easily liked as much if not more than some of her others. It also has some humor to make it entertaining for the adult readers. The writing flows well and the rhyming doesn't sound forced. This is a gem if you're looking for a birthday book for your birthday monster!

This book checks off many of the things I look for when choosing books for my son. Board books are perfect for babies and toddlers. I bought this as a gift for his 1st birthday and 4 months later he still enjoys having this book read to him. I like the colorful and interesting illustrations. Lots to point out and discuss while reading. I love rhyming stories and so do kids. The story is silly, cute and interesting. A rollercoaster of emotions to experience. Fun ending. I definitely recommend this book. I can see myself buying it as a birthday gift for other kids as well.

I always buy this book for any little one of mine having a birthday and it is always a hit. Love the author and love all her books. Fun, funny, creative and imaginative. Always looking forward to another one.

Sandra Boynton writes another cute book that little ones can enjoy! It's funny and fun about birthdays. Fun to read and fun for kids, which is pretty much our experience with most of Sandra Boynton's work.

This was a birthday gift for a little girl and she and her mom both seemed to like it very much. Durable and fun to read, so I think it'll be a great addition to a toddler's early reading collection. She had her mom read it a couple of times while we were there, which bodes well for its future. She was easily able to hold and manipulate the pages herself, which is what she wants to do.

Great book! It's so cute and silly. I give it out in lieu of birthday cards for little kiddos, and I wish more local bookstores would stock it for that reason. Sadly, none really do, so instead I buy off of Amazon.

Such a cute story. I am a nanny and I love reading this with my munchkins - its a great book for all ages, though it's especially wonderful for little hands and little attention spans (: Sandra Boynton books are a favorite of mine to give to kids as gifts, or just because! In this case I gave this to one year old boy girl twins on their birthday. I think its great for young readers to identify the monsters' very silly and absurd behavior, and love the ending makes up for the comical day the birthday hippo endured.

This is one of our favorite books. My 2 year old LOVES it. The fun story is written so well and flows so naturally. The story cracks me up every time. My 11 year old always picks it up first to read to my son. This is now one of my "go-to" birthday presents for kiddos turning 1 or 2. I highly recommend it!

Our times of prayer prepare us for our times of action. Silence teaches us who we are. Silence provides inner wisdom. Silence teaches us when to be silent and when to take no action. Silence teaches us that sometimes someone else, not us, is better suited for the action.Divine Alignment“When we are rooted in the ground of being and aligned with the heart of existence, there’s a different source of energy flowing through us.”“Through contemplative prayer we get in the flow of what God is already doing in and through us. We do not need to work harder to get more done. I have found that silence teaches me how to work with a calm intensity and at the same time be even more productive. Silence seems to gift me with wisdom for my daily tasks.Cooperation“Consider whatever physical, emotional, or mental challenges you may be facing, and let go of being in control. It’s not about being perfectly well or perfectly physically fit. God is at work in you and through you—even in your limitations. All that is required of you is cooperation with what is.“We must cooperate with God where we are at. In mid December, I began to experience pains in my hip, lower back and down my right leg into my foot. I went to the Chiropractor. There was no improvement. I went to an orthopedic doctor. The doctor prescribed a dose of steroids and sent me to physical therapy. Finally, some 2 1/2 months later I feel better. The pain has dissipated. The lesson I learned was that I must continue with my life. As Phileena mentions I found that God continued to work in and through me and I continued to cooperate with what was my situation.Dark Night“Gradually, through the mysterious season of darkness, God excavates our interior landscape, uprooting the layers of imperfections that keep us from fully cooperating with God in our world.”At one time or another you will probably experience a dark night of the soul. It is during this time that you will be challenged to operate by pure faith. You must continue to come back to your silent sit despite a feeling that God is absent. God is not absent and is still at work within you!Fruits“I am resolved to be free of fear, to be unafraid. To boldly and humbly live this one wild and precious life I’ve been given.”“You are stronger and more resilient than you realize.”Silence transforms us! Silence teaches me that even if I am afraid, I still need to take action and move forward. My barometer is if it excites me and it is an action that will not harm me or others, then I should move forward. Fear is never a reason not to move out of my comfort zone. This is how I grow. This is how I continue to become the person God intends me to be.Next Steps“The more of us who commit to the contemplative path—the path of seeing, observing, and taking responsibility for our life through meditative practice—the more possible it will be to experience God’s presence in the center of our being. I loved this book. It is such a great resource for people curious about or new to the contemplative tradition - deep and beautiful and full of wonderful stories and also accessible and gentle. It doesn’t assume previous knowledge of contemplative practices and introduces the reader to several along the way. But, longtime contemplatives will also love it and be reminded of the tenderness of discovering a deeper way to know and be known. I have already recommended it to several clients and friends. The author’s first book, “Pilgrimage of a Soul,” is also a worthwhile read.

The author was both instructive and transparent which made the good so very engaging. I am recommending it to our staff and to friends who are ready to go deeper and add some new tools to their inner lives that can spill out to others. Thank you Phileena for sharing your life, knowledge and being helpful to us the readers.

The word “Christian” in the title drew me because I often find that spiritual direction and silence and solitude bring with it resources other than the Bible or in addition to the Bible and I just want Bible to the main vein flowing through all direction. This book leans more on Catholicism than on Protestantism. She has a sentence that says: “All great religions…” after she mentions Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam with Christianity tagged on at the end… This is very early on in the book. This book has the potential to lead us down a path we don’t want to go down. There are 2 ways to use Scripture: one is to use Scripture to support what you are trying to say and the other is to have Scripture support itself. I read this book and noticed in quite a few areas that the author's source of truth is other than Scripture as her main source and she pulls from many people and religions/sources that are even to the extent of anti-Christ. When you choose to add these types of people into your spiritual life you are saying that what these people have to offer is equal to the Truth you might find in the Words of Jesus. As one would say after reading Galatians 1:6-10 there is no other gospel. These other individuals would say that there is another gospel apart from Christ, John 14:6. The very essence of Colossians is Jesus plus anything is no longer the Gospel. We are complete in Christ. Colossians 2:8 gives us the warning to be sure everything is according to Christ. If you choose to read this just know that you need to be on guard against statements that would lead you to belief in other viewpoints than Christianity.I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
