Love this book. Gets straight to the point. The book is very small but everything that's in it will help you towards better essay writing. This is NOT to say that the techniques Mr. Racine teaches will definitely work for you, or that you'll magically become an expert after reading this book. PRACTICE MAKES IT PERFECT. But if you want some valuable tricks and tactics, do read it. It's very cheap on Kindle and you can finish reading it in 1hr the most. It's money and time well spent.

I bought this b/c it was cheap, while I was purchasing other materials to use studying for the Georgia Bar. I read this in about an hour, or less. It just tells you about the IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) method of essay writing. If want more information on that, just Google it and find some free articles or blog posts. Really, do not purchase this "book".

This is a good book if you have been out of law school for awhile and need a good refresher in IRAC and how to focus your essay for the bar exam. Also it it helps you interpret what your essay graders are saying (commercial bar prep courses) when they assess your practice essays.

This book gives you a solid outline for how to attack a bar essay. I will definitely be using the information in it to improve my essays for the CA bar exam.

Most of the information in this book is intuitive, but it bears repeating. The book is very short and notes the proper procedures for writing proper essays.

This is a well presented step by step approach, without the needless fluff.

Short and to the point. Helpful.

Matt Racine's book is short and to the point. He gets right to the strategy and does away with all the fluff. This book is easy to use as a play by play or week by week tool for bar prep.

I moved from the Midwest to NYC in 1973, on the cusp of all the changes that Moss writes about. I've always loved energy and diversity of the city although didn't like the grime and crime of the past. I've witnessed the gentrification in my neighborhood and always felt concerned that so many poorer people were being forced from our community. As a social worker married to a teacher we would be priced out of our building neighborhood if we were not a in a rent stabilized apartment. The rent for non-stabilized apartments in our building are going for $10,000/month rent! How many people can really afford that? What Moss does so clearly, with an impressive amount of research, is to explain how these changes have happened all through the city. I did not know of all of the political and corporate agreements and regulations which created this and reading this made me angry. Fortunately he concludes with directions and actions people can take. At times it was painful to read, but I couldn't put it down.

Jeremiah Moss chronicles my last 10 years of misery living in NYC. A neatly packaged history memoir about NY and urban planning.I wish I had this book back then to comfort me and assure me that I wasn't going crazy, that these things were really happening before my eyes. I had no one to relate to before I left. No one that understood the magnitude of the situation. I was one of the last to leave. I found this book to be extremely informative. It helped me bring closure to a very depressing time in my life and gave me verification that leaving NYC was one of the best things I did for myself in years. The legend , the memories, the experiences will be with me for life but the NYC that I knew 1969 - 2015 is dead and gone in my lifetime. The politicians and real estate people got their wish.Get out while you can. Believe it or not there is life beyond NY City !

Modern day astronomers can summon up a pretty remarkable picture of what the universe looked like billions of years ago. They have a much harder time of depicting it now. Most of us have a very vivid recollection of where we grew up and perhaps don't take as much time to carefully assess where we are now, although some level of complaints are pretty universal. This is a truly painful and thoughtful book about New York. I am amazed that I find it so persuasive even though my political and social views are in many ways different and sometimes opposed from that of the author. As a life long conservative, and even a real estate attorney for a time, I still cherish many of the diverse traits and places of "The City" that Moss chronicles as being lost or threatened and am just as angry about the lack of respect and support for immigrants, working class people and those who march to a different drummer.I grew up in Brooklyn and Manhattan in the mid 40s to the early 60s, and have continued to visit it regularly since. We weren't poor, but our circumstances were modest. So I am aware of even more that has been lost before Moss arrived. I too loathe the mediocrity and mendacity of chain stores, cold and arrogant architecture, selfish and supercilious people, kickbacks and eminent domain overreach, and the excesses of redevelopment and gentrification that are destroying the character and grittiness of a place that rewarded the hard work and hustle of people who struggle to make ends meet.Moss paints all of the New York mayors from Koch on as mostly evil accomplices of greedy and barbarian real estate developers. He meticulously recounts the destruction of the character of numerous colorful and distinctive neighborhoods and the systematic efforts to evict poor people and small businesses and banish them to the outer reaches of the city and beyond.But it is a mystery, who are buying all of these luxury condos and apartments? The implication is that wealthy people are moving in in droves and are happy to accept the sterile high rises and mass market and near luxury trinkets of generic city neighborhoods built on the ruins of the older and distinctive quarters that are being decimated. That just doesn't fully compute! Moss doesn't answer those questions. But he rightfully laments the lack of civility, loss of appreciation for people who are different from you, and the reluctance to leave a space for different subcultures and artists.It is not all doom and gloom. The author seeks out and appreciates what hasn't been lost and makes an eloquent plea to fight back against the banal and boorish commercial and civil behavior that has and is destroying the very fabric of city life. Maybe there is some common ground for conservatives and liberals when they truly care about people more than labels and slogans.

This book is a mind opener. While those of us who have lived in New York for countless generations have been aware that the city changes over time, and seldom overall for the better, we disconnected the earlier patterns of urban destruction from the accelerated pace that we've seen in the past generation. But Moss has traced the current trend of massive destruction of so much of the physicality of the city to long term goals dating back at least a century. The only difference is that the pace in recent years has been accelerated.One hopes that this book is widely read, and shakes people up to motivate them to do something collectively to stop the furtherance of the losses that are making New York lifeless and devoid of the creative energy that made this city vital. Spread the word, and make this book the focus of discussions of what is to come in the next few years, and afterwards. Collectively, we can make a difference.

The aptly named author has delivered forth a prophetic bombshell for the ages. His passion, his keen eye, his turn of phrase, are unquestionable. As a native New Yorker and great lover of this quintessential modern city, I approached this book with high hopes, but must admit I found the first half to be tough going at times as the author's justifiable anguish at what's being done to the city in the name of progress over the last few decades seemed to render him virtually incoherent, as if the pages themselves could not contain his inchoate rage. But somewhere around halfway through, probably starting with the chapter on the High Line, Mr. Moss hits his stride and delivers a series of sterling chapters on the decline and fall of so many wonderful neighborhoods in this endangered metropolis. So, overall, well worth a read and an important contribution to the debate on the fate and the future of New York.

This is the second book I have read by Ann Patchett. (The first was "Commonwealth.") I sense a writer's "trick" in these two that she uses magnificently. In both books, we have perfectly ordinary people living perfectly ordinary lives. And then (insert the golden Plot Key and twist slightly) something happens that is not perfectly ordinary and changes their lives. This happens in the first few pages of the book. And then we share in the experience of these perfectly ordinary people as they deal with something they never imagined--and the implications and effects it has on those they love. And when I say "experience," I mean that. Ann Patchett fully draws the reader into the book. The stories are not scary or filled with terror (remember, the "perfectly ordinary" descriptions above), but the story will haunt you.The basic plot of "State of Wonder": In the first sentence we learn that Dr. Anders Eckman is dead. Anders had traveled deep into the Amazon at the behest of his employer, a Minneapolis-based pharmaceutical company that has a researcher working at a secret site on a secret drug that will revolutionize the world. But the researcher is incommunicado. Anders was sent to investigate. And then tragedy strikes. With few details about his death and no body (he was hastily buried in the jungle), Dr. Marina Singh, Anders's officemate, is sent to the Amazon to find out what happened to this married father of three young boys. And so begins a state of wonder in which the reader will be carried with descriptions so vivid that it's easy to envision the chaos and blistering heat of the jungle and almost hear the squawking birds and screeching creatures that inhabit it. Marina's perfectly ordinary life has been upended and will never be perfectly ordinary again.But the book is so much more than plot--no matter how riveting and engrossing. It is also about people, our connections, the choices we make and the effects those choices have on us and others.

Very well-written book. Both not what I was expecting, and far more than I was expecting.I expected a book about exploring the Amazon. The first half of the book was all about the main character, a doctor and scientist, and her work and personal relationships in Minnesota. By the time she flies to Manaus to look for a lost colleague, one is already half-way through the book.Eventually, the person she is waiting for in Manaus shows up, and she follows them into the jungle. From here, her experiences are so different from what I would have expected, yet interesting and profound. I really enjoyed stepping into this woman's shoes and experiencing everything she experienced. It's like adventure travel, combined with science and moral dilemmas, and calls for bravery in multiple situations. To my surprise, the book winds up with a very satisfying ending.

I loved the writing in this novel. The author is so technically excellent in weaving in flashbacks, memories, dreams and the physical world. I loved the descriptions of the Amazon, an area I will probably never visit but one that came to life in A. Patchett's prose. She took me on the archetypal journey of the protagonist/heroine who strikes out on a search and succeeds in bringing back the Holy Grail (Anders). However, I do think that the author seems to have painted herself into a corner when we get to the end of the book. The author painstakingly takes us on the journey from Marina reluctantly considering beginning her quest to her coming to terms to the society that she has entered to the actions she takes in the end. Nothing prepared me for the sudden and not-quite-believable ending given the totality of the book. Still, there is much to delight in the wonderful prose and the often startling imagery of this novel.

This was my first Ann Patchett book - an author that had been recommended to me by a few people. It started off a bit slow with too much dialogue and preamble before the book took off in an interesting direction. About half way through, I realised that I was quite enjoying this book and it almost became a page turner. The language was good, the characters interesting and the story somewhat fascinating - albeit in no way believable. Ultimately the ending, which leaves you guessing, was just right especially in the context of a story which could in no way be true. I wouldn't recommend this to those who are interested in realism but if you can suspend disbelief and like a good story then you will enjoy the book. I will ponder the question of what happens next - however as much as I would like to fill in the blanks it is part of what makes the overall book good.I would give this book 4 1/2 stars if I could. I will definitely read another one by this author

The book turned quite weird at the end. The characters were not very likable or interesting. I'm also not sure what the title had to do with the book. Some of the tribal oddities were annoying and a bit condescending. If a tribe is known to steal all a person's clothes, why not warn people to hang on to their suitcases instead of just having them leave them unguarded? The plot was mildly interesting, but the ending was disappointing. It seemed like the book was trying to make a point about drug research, pharmaceutical companies, etc., but the plot was so odd that the meaning was lost. Other books I've read by her have been better than this one.

The title fits the book as I was in a state of wonder as I read it. The story deals with science professors and doctors/pharmacologists giving up their lives at home to work on a fertility drug way out in the Amazon jungle. One doctor is missing and presumed dead from Malaria. Meanwhile another doctor, a woman named Marina is sent out there to find out what happened to Dr.Anders and what is going on with the research. What transpires next is an ongoing adventure that keeps you reading and not wanting to put down the book. I thoroughly enjoyed I and recommend it highly. I never would have read this book on my own but it was our May book group book choice. I thank them for that.

This book clearly outlines the systems and strategies employed in the current game of volleyball on the world stage. It also helps simplify the decision making process regarding the application of a certain system and/or strategy. Many coaches employ systems and strategies without thinking critically about the personnel requirements as well as their team's strengths and weaknesses. This book aims to develop these critical thinking skills and it also provides you with drills to develop the system/strategy with your team.What the book doesn't touch on is the triple block system, which if you're coaching teams 18U and down should not be applying, or if so apply sparingly. It also does not talk about a 6-6 (everyone sets at some point of the rotation) and 6-3 (three key setters) offense system which would be a great idea for the 13U, 14U and 15U level as these offensive systems help expose more athletes to the setting position.This book is great for the coaches in the youth development level of the game. It is a must have as a coaching resource.

Stokes in 1983 (IBSN 0-316-81724-4), is one of the five books written by the author to explain insect behavior. This book is a guide to observing insects and unlike many traditional field guide this books teaches the readers how to find the insects and then focuses on the insects’ behavior. The theme of this book is to gain ability to find and observe the insects in their natural environment. Throughout the book the author explains what he considers to be important behavioral observations. This books tries to literate the main points of the insects such as life cycle, observations, behaviors, and their relationships. He uses black and white figures that illustrate the insects’ interactions/behavior in their natural habitat. This is a powerful tool that allows the readers to get an idea of what the insects look like in real life.At the beginning of the book, the author introduces his main objectives, which are to introduce beginners/potential naturalist the art of observing insects and their main functions (Stokes, 1983). The book is divided into four sections labeled as spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each section beginnings with several paragraphs explaining how to find insects throughout each season. Then he follows by giving a figure illustrating the most common insects and where they can be located (Stokes, 1983). He then writes four to five paragraphs about the insects’ relationship, life cycle, highlights of their life cycle, and what one can observe. Typically the section that describes what one should observe is longer because that is the purpose of the book.The book is designed for beginner naturalist that are preparing them to explore the field. For individuals who are looking to be challenged or explore insects in great detail this is not an appropriate book. However, for those who find themselves struggling with some basic ideas or need backup reading this is well written that provides foundation of insect behavior.It seems as if the targeted audience is middle/high school students who are just discovering and/or gaining interest in the wild life. For example, Stokes believes that they way to find honeybees is to go to patches of flowers and look for gold bees (Stokes, 1983). Those who know anything about insects would find this information lacking of complexity. Any individual who has some knowledge of insects would have much more follow up questions that this book wouldn’t be able to explain because it is beyond the scope of the book. The author assumes that the readers lack knowledge of insects. However, for individuals like myself, this book is appropriate because I was unaware of many insects behavior. The main focus of this book is to help the readers how to observe and find insects in various places at different times of the year. At the beginning of book Stokes informs his readers that there is still little known about insects. He tells his readers that the little that is known comes from regular people with a little of curiosity (Stokes, 1983). He believes that with a little curiosity and this book it can lead to great discovery. I believe that the author tries to give the reader very basic information to feed their curiosity and then come up with observations and hypothesis of their own. After all that is what makes a good scientist. There is no need of fancy equipment or specific knowledge instead some interest and with the help of this book the author believes that the reader will become a great naturalist (Stokes, 1983). Reinforcing my assumption that this book is a stepping-stone. Stokes discusses in great detail the behavior of insects and although he provides facts, he also provides the reader with his personal experience. Some of his observations are biased because they are based on his experiences. There may be other behaviors that are worth noting but he doesn’t mention, the readers learning are limited to his ideas. For example, when he describes what one should observe in crickets and/or grasshoppers he believes that some of them sound like pieces of sandpaper being rubbed together (Stokes, 1983). Moreover, he also describes the structure of the hives is marvelous but the average naturalist will disagree (Stokes, 1983). The use of ‘average’ has a strong notation and therefor I believed that he is biased towards some topics.Although many of his suggestions are right, I believe that he should clarify that the behaviors that he explains. As a writer he does firmly speak without any exaggerations or distortions. In a way as one reads the book it feels like there is a connection between the reader and author. Simultaneously, he introduces a lot of information that would be useful for beginners and because his writing is more like a conversation it is easy to follow along and understand what one is seeing. This book is boring for those who aren’t really interested in fieldwork and are just reading it as a hobby. Since the purpose of the book was to observe insects, it was hard to read without having the physical insect in from of me. However, it did raise curiosity in learning more about these insects and possibly exploring the field to see them and observe their behaviors. I was disappointed that the author did not mention any insect anatomy because as a biologist I was hoping to learn how their anatomy plays a role in their behavior. The author did explain some body parts of the insects however it was very limited and basic. I wish the author went a little more in depth about certain insects.I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in insects and doesn’t have a strong background. More specifically, those who are interested in field work because this is a great place to start. At the beginning of the book he dedicates a few paragraphs to provide inspiration and support. He believes that anyone who reads his book and has a spark of interest will have an easy time exploring the field and make observations of their own (Stokes, 1983). It makes the reader feel at ease without feeling like the author is superior.The author voice is very comforting and makes his audience feel like it is easy to become a scientist and observe insects. One of the many reasons that I licked the book was because it connected me to a very inspirational professor that I once had. Stokes made me feel like I could go out and conquer a field. Some of the descriptions in the book were so well written that I felt like I was with the author in the field looking at some insects. For example, while he describes the sounds of crickets he begins to tell the reader to imagine they walking in a warm sunny day in the roadsides and woods (Stokes, 1983). Illusions like these are what help the reader to engage in his reading.In all I believe that the author did a good job in writing this book. Although this book is directed to inexperienced and/or potential naturalist, it does a good job in directing the readers. I believe that his objectives to educate and inspire his audience were well achieved

My 4 year old knows her letters by name and sound but could never sing the ABC song correctly or recite the alphabet in order. After only 1 day of a few of these fun dot-to-dots, she has it down! Wish I would have found this years ago because I homeschool my children and it is the fastest way to teach them to recite the ABC's.

This dot to dot by alphabet is quite a hit around our house. It is a fun way to reinforce alphabet learning and also helps with hand-eye coordination and graphic recognition.

I love how fast this came to my home. The workbook itself is a tad small in content of pages, but I know my granddaughter, who turns 3 in April, will love this activity book. I really was impressed with the quality of each page, definitely going to be a winner! I will be purchasing more from this seller!!

This is for my 3-year old granddaughter. A good way to teach her written alphabet letters, while having fun learning.
