About the Author

Dr. Rendon is Senior Lecturer of Acquisition Management, Graduate School of Business and Public Policy at the Naval Postgraduate School. He has earned BBA, MBA, and DBA degrees as well as CPCM, C.P.M. and PMP certifications. He was recognized with the USAF Outstanding Officer in Contracting Award and the National Contract Management Association National Education Award and the NCMA Outstanding Fellow Award. Author of numerous publications in the fields of contract management, supply management, and project management, Dr. Rendon's publications also include U. S. Military Program Management: Lessons Learned & Best Practices (2007), and Contract Management Organizational Assessment Tools (2005). Dr. Snider is Associate Professor of Public Administration and Management, Graduate School of Business and Public Policy, at the Naval Postgraduate School. He earned a B.S. from the United States Military Academy, M.S. in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School, and Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Affairs from Virginia Tech. Author of numerous publications in the fields of acquisition, public administration, and project management, he received the Khi V. Thai Research Scholar of the Year Award at the 2008 National Institute of Governmental Purchasing Annual Forum.

The book is composed of independent chapters, each mentioning a different aspect of defense projects and written by different people.Naturally the book is about management of defense projects in the United States style, i.e. it is about concepts and methods employed in the United States. United States is arguably the most open country about management of defense projects (its budget, GAO reports, magazines and journals...etc). Therefore the specific focus of the book is acceptable. In fact, as a consequence of this specific focus, the reader can easily access to additional resources about subjects mentioned in the book.As a matter of fact, it is possible to access information from other sources (such as standards, DoD directives, the Internet) about subjects mentioned in the book. But this book serves all the fundamental information in a single book, in an order set by professional writers and supplemented by case studies.My only critic is about case studies. I think more detailed case studies could be supplied. There are a wide range of open source material about specific projects. Detailed case studies would enhance effectiveness of the book.I highly recommend the book to all in the defense industry and also to the academicians working on defense matters.

I purchased this book to help me gain more knowledge with the PM of Government programs/projects. I wish I would have gotten this book sooner. This book is a great guide to understanding acquisition projects; it's very clear and easy to read; I keep it at my desk for reference. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Dry reading, not very engaging, but it gets the point across. I'm not particularly sure that it is worth the cost, but it is what the professor called for. DAU has better products if you have access to them.

Bought this for Prof. Rendon's (author) class. It's a fairly inexpensive book but don't waste your money. I don't think anyone in the class cracked the book open.
